Geogard Roof Coatings will restore existing smooth surfaced, granule and gravel surfaced modified bitumen's and asphalt roofs to better then new condition and the coated roofs can be warranted by RPM for 12-years materials and labor.

Geogard is the perfect solution for roof restorations with large numbers of penetrations as shown in this photo essay and high-rise buildings where the logistics of roof removal and loading conventional membranes onto the roof are both difficult and costly.  With buildings with two existing roofs, building code require a complete roof tear-off. You have two choices, one do an expensive time consuming, risky tear-off or two, use a building code friendly Geogard Coating and avoid the roof tear-off.  Geogard is the most cost effective option compared to a roof tear-off. Geogard roof restorations are contractor friendly. Geogard can be completed in less time, using one third the work force of conventional re-roofs. Geogard is more productive and less disruptive and most important more profitable.

For the building owner, Geogard Coatings provides a high performance, long term waterproof roofing system.  Geogard is Energy Star rated turning a  BUR/Modified roof into a white energy saving roof and reducing cooling cost. Geogard coatings are less expensive then conventional roof tear-offs. The final savings, in many cases a tax write-off. Roof coating cost unlike conventional re-roofs can be expensed year one, owner should check with their tax advisor about expensing vs capital outlay.

Steps to restore an aging roof with many penetrations

  • The existing roof should be core cut, any areas found with wet insulation should be removed and replaced.  Remove all loose debris and  roof top equipment.  Check to see all drains and scuppers and verify they are clear and draining.  Powerwash the roof removing all loose granules and any  loose coatings.

  • Apply the Geogard Base Coat to all wall and curb angle changes, embed Republic's six inch wide Polyfab polyester fabric into the wet Geogard base Coat and cover with additional Geogard Base Coat. Prior to coating the field membrane, repair all splits and defective seams with Geogard Base Coat and fabric.  Apply the Geogard Base Coat to all walls, scuppers, around drains, curbs, penetrations and equipment stands. The Geogard coating is applied at half the coverage rate to parapet walls and curbs to prevent sagging of the coating. When the wall/curb coating is dry, a second coating of  the Geogard base Coat is applied to the walls/curbs.

  • Apply the Geogard Base Coat to the field membrane at the correct coverage rate determined by the substrate type. ** Note all Geogard Base Coatings  must be coated with the Geogard Finish Coat within 72-hours of application.   Past 72-hours a Geogard Primer has to be applied prior to the application of the Geogard Finish Coat to insure proper bonding of the two coatings.

  • Once the Geogard Base Coat has dried, (typical 24-48 hours). The Geogard Finish coat is applied to all walls, curbs and penetrations. ** Note on this project a Tan colored Geoagrd Finish coat was used to meet the local architectural requirements of Santa Fe.

  • Notice the detail work on the penetrations and with the scuppers (canales) and the  adobe style (stucco) walls forming a complete water tight detail.  Geogard coatings will resist summer rain water and winter ice dam build up common Santa Fe a common source of roof leaks in Santa Fe with adobe and traditional stucco construction.

  • Geogard Coatings and the Geogard Seam Seamer are excellent repair materials for wall/roof construction and penetrations.
