Geogard urethane coatings can be applied over EPDM, PVC, Hypalon Concrete, Polyurethane foam and Modified Bitumen/Built-up roofing systems. RPM's Geogard coatings are warranted for 12-years material and labor. The Geogard system is UL Class A and FM Class I approved. Geogard will maintain/improve the current roof system fire rating.
Geogard Coating Systems is extremely fast and simple to install. The Geogard system is rolled out or under the right roof/wind conditions sprayed, either way Geogard is a high production - low labor cost system. Compared to the typical re-roof, a Geogard Coating System can be completed in days instead of weeks. Geogard coating projects require one-third the personnel of conventional full roof replacements and is less disruptive to the owner's facility. Geogard is the perfect roof restoration solution on buildings with two-existing roofs. the additional Geogard coating is not considered a third roof and saves tear-off and full roof system replacement cost. Geogard is low weight, strongly resistant to ponding water, improves hail resistances and provides a new membrane layer 24-34 mils thick. Over a million sq.ft. installed in New Mexico.
This photo essay shows the steps to complete a typical Geogard coating over a mechanically fastened EPDM roofing system. (Special thanks to Commercial Roofing Systems for the outstanding job at NASA and providing the photo's)

Remove any walkway pavers and loose roof top equipment . Check drains to see they are unclogged and draining freely. Power wash the roof to remove all dirt, debris to provide a clean surface for coating the roof with the Geogard System. Allow The roof to dry for at least 24-hours. Loosen any lightning protection cables from the EPDM roof surface. The lightning protection system can remain intact during installation if the cables have enough slack.

Apply the Geogard Base Coat over the EPDM Seams and then embed Republic's Permafab (polyester fabric) into the wet Geogard base coat, applying more base coat onto the fabric. Allow the Geogard base coat to dry to the touch (24-48 hours) depending on humidity.
-
Apply the Geogard Base Coat and Permafab at all curbs, penetrations, and angle changes at walls, curbs and corners. The Geogard Base Coat is extremely tenacious and will strongly adhered to single-ply membranes forming a new seam stronger then the original EPDM seam.
-
**Note on thermoplastic systems such as Hypalon or PVC the field seams are not stripped in unless they have failed by coming coming apart. Geogard Base Coat with fabric is still applied around wall/curb angle changes and around penetrations.

- Once the seam prep is completed and the Geogard Base Coat is dry to the touch. Geogard Base Coat is applied to all walls, curbs and penetrations. The Geogard coating is applied at half the coverage rate to parapet walls/curbs to prevent sagging of the coating. After the wall/curb coating is dry, the second coating of the Geogard base Coat can be applied to the walls/curbs as the full coating of Geogard Base Coat is applied to the field membrane.

- After the Geogard Base Coat has dried, (typical 24-48 hours). The Geogard Finish coat is applied to all walls, curbs and penetrations.

- Geogard Finish Coat is applied over the field membrane after the Geogard Base Coat has dried to touch. Note, in the event the Geogard Base Coat cannot be coated with the Geogard Finish Coat within 72-hours a Geogard Primer is applied prior to installing the Geogard Finish Coat. So stage your work accordingly.
- Apply two days of Geogard Base Coat to the field membrane and as you start the third day of Geogard Base Coat, start applying the Geogard Finish Coat to the day 1 & day 2 base coat applications, adjusting for local weather conditions. Finish coating any walls/curbs/penetrations and scuppers while doing the field areas.
- Walkways are created over the finished Geogard system by snapping out chalk lines for the walkway and apply a thin Geogard Finish Coat using a alternate color. While the Geogard Finish Coat is wet, broadcast silica sand onto the wet Geogard Finish Coat. When the Geoard Coating is dry, sweep off, removing any loose sand.
- Re-install drain baskets, reattach lightning protection and any other loose equipment that was remove prior to applying the coating.
